The Peshawar university
founded in 1950 AD. Is the out growth
of Islamia college, Peshawar which was
established in 1913 AD. By late Nawab
Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Khan. The
first chief minister of Khybar Pakhtunkhwa. His name
and another prominent political figure,
Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan laid the foundation
of the university during his tenure
as chief minister of Khybar Pakhtunkhwa.
The university campus is spread over
an area of 1.000 acres. During the course
of 50 years it has grown into big town
ship. It is situated at a distance of
about 8 kilometers from Peshawar cantonment
along the Khyber road on the way to
Khyber Pass. It is a resident university
and all most all the teaching staff;
student and employees live there. The
campus has its own shopping center.
Hospital, post office and banks. A big
hospital has been constructed to provide
the training facilities to the medical
students whom at present studying In
Khyber medical college. In addition,
there are Pakistan Rural Academy and
Pakistan Forest Institute located at
campus. Besides teaching requirements
at the university, authorities have
not over looked the sports and other
extra curricular activities. Facilities
for all types of recognized out door
and in door games have been provided.
College and university tournaments are
held regularly in games like hockey,
football, cricket, swimming, badminton,
volleyball, basket ball, tennis, boating,
shooting and athletics.
There are teacher student center and
various types of unions and associations
to provide the students debating forum.
The university has a big library with
nearly 100,000 books and manuscripts. |

Since its establishment
as a College of Engineering in 1952,
this institution has been training Engineers
upto the first degree level in all the
major disciplines of engineering. In
1980 it got its separate identity as
University and started Bachelor's degree
course in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical,
Agriculture and Mining Engineering.In
1995 the Department of Chemical Engineering
has added with the intake of 25 students.
After gaining the status of an Engineering
University in 1980, efforts were focussed
on introducing postgraduate studies
in various disciplines. As a first step,
in 1984, postgraduate courses leading
to M.Sc. degree were started in Civil
Engineering. In 1990 the remaining departments
also started postgraduate programmes.
The University is also planning to start
M.Phil/Ph.D. programme in the near future.

Agriculture education was
introduced into the curriculum of Islamia
College,Peshawar in 1933. The College
of Agriculture was set up in 1957 as
a constituent college of the University
of Peshawar. The four year B.Sc. degree
programme after matriculation,followed
prior to the establishment of the College
of Agriculture,was discontinued. A revised
curriculum was started in 1957,in which
students with matriculation were admitted
to a five years degree programme leading
to the award of B.Sc. Hons. classes
were started in different disciplines,
i.e Agricultural Chemistry,Agronomy,Animal
Science,Entomology,Horticulture and
food technology
The college was upgraded to a status
of Faculty of Agriculture under the
University of Peshawar in 1974. |

A University was promised by the father
of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad
Ali Jinnah in 1948. The foundation of
Peshawar University was laid down by
the first Prime Minister Liaqat Ali
Khan in 1950. The University occupies
the site of the ancient Budhist Academy.
The Khyber Medical College lies in the
campus on the historic caravan route
that brought conquerors from Central
Asia to this Sub-continent. Now instead
of warriors, students from several parts
of the world flock to this institution
in search of knowledge that alleviates
human suffering.
The foundation of the college was laid
by the Governor General of Pakistan
Mr. Ghulam Mohammad in 1954. It strives
to expand steadily to meet growing requirements
of the people of this province. To look
after dental health of the people of
Khybar Pakhtunkhwa, a Dentistry Department (BDS) was
founded in KMC in 1964 by Sahibzadi
Mahmooda Salim the Health Minister at
that time. The Department of Dentistry
was converted into an independent college
at the time of its Silver Jubilee celebration
and named as "Khyber College of Dentistry"
in January 1990.

Considering the importance of Science
and enhance the Science Education,
the former Government of West
Pakistan felt the need to open
Science Colleges at degree level
in every Division of west Pakistan.
Accordingly, Government Superior
Science College Peshawar, was
established in portion of the
teachers training school Michni
Road Peshawar in 1962. Initially
subjects of Physics, Chemistry
and Maths were taught at Degree
level later F.SC (Pre-Engineering)
Classes were introduced in the
college and in July, 1971 FSc(Pre-Medical)
Classes were also started.
The College was shifted to its
present campus in 1972. Besides
environmental suitability for
academic activities, the present
building is also suitable because
of its location. The famous
historic Wazir Bagh lies to
its North west. A network of
road connects the college with
the surrounding areas and makes
an easy approach to it.
The college building spreads
over a vast area with well ventilated
Class-rooms, well equipped laboratories,
library, Mosque canteen, play
ground and green lawns. There
are two halls, one for indoor
games and the other for various
cultural activities and
examinations. The institution is managed by
a qualified and experience team
of teaching and Ministerial
Staff.
In 1985, Intermediate classes
in humanities group were started
which after two years were upgraded
to degree level.A Intermediate level the college
is affiliated with the Board
of Intermediate and Secondary
Education Peshawar and at degree
level with the University of
Peshawar in the Following subjects.
